The Clubs by JOE approached The Idea Boutique in spring of 2018 with the news that a brand-new dining space would be coming to the prestigious WaterSound Beach Club, we were excited to dive in on a new branding project. After many ideas and different restaurant concepts, Costa Chica was born.

 

Inspired by the bright colors and authentic cuisine of Mexico and the laid-back beach lifestyle found along Scenic Highway 30-A in Northwest Florida, Costa Chica is a casual poolside eatery with a walk-up counter, patio seating, and an adjacent full bar. Its fresh, South-of-the-Border-style fare includes tacos and other Mexican favorites with a hint of the American South. Costa Chica also offers exciting signature desserts such as Deep South Freeze giant ice-cream sandwiches and more. With a casual luxury that emanates the overall brand promise of WaterSound Beach Club and The Clubs by JOE, this new dining destination is sure to become a family favorite.

 

The distinctly coastal logo features bright colors that reflect the Gulf of Mexico and beaches of 30-A, which can be seen across the dunes from the patio of Costa Chica. A rustic yet playful typeface brings the restaurant’s casual character to life, creating a friendly vibe that customers of all ages will love.

 

Our design team explored a variety of logo concepts and typeface ideas that played on not only the restaurant’s Mexican food but also the fun and family friendly vibe that it conveys by being adjacent to the WaterSound Beach Club pool and lazy river. Turquoise, magenta, sunny yellow, and lime green became the colorful palette that also inspired a range of T-shirt designs we loved creating. Fun sayings and characters such as an avocado, tacos, hot peppers, and more adorn this bright and appealing shirts for all ages.

 

The menu designs for Costa Chica also include a branded look that follows the final logo design, with rustic-yet-playful Mexican-inspired type and design elements. Featuring tacos, burritos, nachos, cool treats, and more, this is certainly one menu that made our mouths water while we worked!

 

Costa Chica opened to the public in May of 2019 to much fanfare, just in time for summer. We are thrilled to see it become a hit with WaterSound Beach Club’s members and guests. The club added the Costa Chica logo on the wall by the patio as well as on a custom-painted paddleboard above the bar, which also showcases some of our favorite sayings from the T-shirt designs.

 

This was one of many new dining concepts created by The Idea Boutique for The Clubs by JOE, and we can’t wait to share more with you.
