Planning Your Brand’s Epic Party
The Details on The Get Down
It’s nonstop work here at The Idea Boutique, to say the least, but that’s nothing out of the ordinary. With an upcoming issue of VIE magazine to publish along with some exciting branding projects, we decided to add party planning into the mix as we prepared for VIE’s kickoff party for South Walton Fashion Week (SWFW) 2016, The Get Down, on October 5.
We were determined to throw the party of the year with a fabulous disco-themed soiree inspired by the Netflix original series The Get Down and our founder Lisa Burwell’s ideas to recreate a Studio 54 vibe with all the glamour, revelry, and soul of the era. Eager to bring this vision to life, we got down to planning!
All in the Details
With a clear concept and inspiration in our minds, we created a list of everything needed for a wow-factor party that would inspire all of our guests to enjoy the night and get out on the dance floor. No detail was left out, including the groovy invitations. A beautiful watercolor graphic was designed by Lucy Mashburn as the face of the party, along with gold foil lettering to set the tone for a glitzy and glamorous night.
Even with a “more is more” mindset, we still knew that everything we wanted for the party needed to work well collectively, or else it could get messy. Luckily, our history of event planning at The Idea Boutique has given us the experience to successfully achieve our goals for food and beverages, decor, music and entertainment, location, and overall preparations. We knew there wasn’t a better location to throw the party than at the home of the host, VIE magazine, located next door to our space here in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. The office’s outdoor space provided a perfectly functional footprint for us to set up. Plus, we’d have the bonus of showing off our gorgeous new garden area designed by our cofounder Gerald Burwell.
We partnered with some of the best vendors in the area to pull it all together. Our vision was pleasantly clouded by a big white tent set up by H & M Event Rentals that oozed groovy sophistication with draped chiffon, black sparkling chandeliers, and a huge disco ball casting iridescent specks of light across the room. A funkalicious black-and-white checkered dance floor lay stage right of the entrance, while a dreamy lounge area adorned with luxurious tufted white chairs, a metallic cowhide rug, and curvy black and gold lamps provided seating—and cool factor—for guests needing to rest their dancing shoes. Tables for two open bars, wine station, and DJ were set up, along with a step and repeat featuring the night’s sponsors—VIE, South Walton Fashion Week, the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County, and Visit South Walton. The adorable airstream photo booth from Epic Photo Co. to give our guests a memorable picture souvenir of the night. With all the finishing touches completed, it was time to roll out the red carpet and party!
Get the Party Started
Guests came dressed in disco funkalicious attire and ready to get their best dance moves on, and we were prepared to give them the time of their lives. Thanks to the drivers from Electric Cart Company for bringing our guests straight to the event. The space filled with guests, with the noticeably fabulous Ophelia Swimwear models on roller skates, showing off their bathing suits from the local boutique and shimmering makeup by Blush Beauty Lounge.
Everyone mixed and mingled in the green space outside our office headquarters, enjoyed seating and magazines in our conference room, and, of course, partook of the delicious fare at Roux 30a, who catered the event. Thanks to Chan’s Wine World, McNeese Distributing, and Grayton Beer Company, no glass ever went empty!
Let’s Boogie!
After our guests arrived and got comfortable, it was time to really get down! The talented break dancers of Smoove Entertainment set the bar with an amazing performance. The amount of talent within these kids is unbelievable, and they wowed our guests with their very “smoove” moves. It was a show-stopping performance that captivated the whole audience, and was the perfect way to open up the dance floor. The night was epic as everyone got down to some great dance tunes from the 70s to today. There wasn’t a wallflower in sight thanks to our wonderful DJ for the night, DJ Rate of Nashville production company THE BOOM BAP. Playing all the right music and keeping up the momentum, our dance floor was packed all the way until the very end of the party. We still have disco fever! We’re so happy to have provided such a magnificent party for all of SWFW and our guests to enjoy. On that note, we’d like to give our thanks to the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County with director Jennifer Steele, Roux 30a, The BOOM BAP’s DJ Rate, Epic Photo Co., Ophelia Swimwear, ANT Smoove Entertainment, McNeese Distributing, Grayton Beer Company, Wine World, CHASTE 850, and all of our advertisers and friends, as well as guests, who came out to support SWFW, VIE, and the arts in Walton County, Florida. Special shout out to our fellow SWFW sponsors Visit South Walton, ZT Motors, 30Avenue, and Grand Boulevard Town Center. Thank you all for your support in making our Get Down a huge success!
